Obituary for Elaine Marie Monscour

Elaine Marie Monscour passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 20th, 2023, in Kansas City, Missouri where she had recently moved to be closer to family. While we are ever so saddened by her passing, we are comforted by the thought that she is free from the pain that she endured in her final weeks. Elaine was surrounded by the loving support of her family which gave her the physical, emotional, and spiritual comfort she needed. We are confident that she passed knowing she was loved.

Elaine was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 7th, 1944. She was the seventh of eight children born to Joseph and Mable Monscour. She was preceded in death her parents, sisters Madelyn Hoover, Joanne Hagman, Mary Barstow, Tina Lins, Rosie Crouch, and brother Richard Monscour. She is survived by her daughters Denise Ackley (Sarah & Abby) of Ankeny, Iowa, Mindy Kampert (Lanie, Abraham Paige, Maxwell, Imani & Vivianna) of Kansas City, Missouri, Stephanie Arnold of Clermont, Florida, Monica and Jeff Musolf of Indio, California and younger brother Michael Monscour of Estero, Florida. Her devoted four-legged companion Bree misses her too.

Elaine loved warm weather and sunshine, prompting a move from the Midwest to central Florida in the early 1990’s. Florida life was a perfect match for Elaine. She established a successful career and purchased a beautiful home in the town of Clermont where she could cruise the canals and chain of lakes in her pontoon boat. The addition of a pool and spa made her home feel more like a resort, prompting many fun visits by family and friends over the years. Her golf cart rides with Bree were a daily routine. Watching her drive by with a standard sized poodle in the passenger seat was a sight to see!

The Florida beaches were a favorite get away for Elaine and her daughters with many trips to both coasts throughout the years. Elaine also enjoyed entertaining at her home and never disappointed guests with the generous portions of steak, shrimp, crab, and lobster that she provided for all to enjoy.

Losing a parent is never easy, but knowing that our mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother is reunited with those that passed before her lessens our sadness and provides a sense of comfort and peace.

In honoring Elaine’s wishes, no memorial service has been arranged. Her immediate family plans to gather in her memory to return her ashes to the sun and sand of her longtime home state of Florida.

Thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers for our mother.

Denise, Mindy, Stephanie & Monica
